About Us

Atlantic Coast Charters is a full service motor coach operator based in Hagerstown, Maryland, celebrating it’s 20th year in business.

Locally owned and operated by Smedley Lynn and his wife, Elvira, the company began operations in October, 1984 with the purchase of a brand new 47 passenger MCI motor coach.

Though initially intending to serve only as an investor, Mr. Lynn became a full time motor coach driver when a second and third coach were added to the new company’s roster in 1986.

As coach demands regularly increased, new coaches were added to the fleet. Experienced drivers began to seek employment with the company, and many of them remain employees to this day.

By 1995, the fleet had increased to eight coaches and the decision was made to keep the fleet at this size. A smaller fleet allowed the company to focus on personalized service and attention to every detail and helped to maintain a staff size that is manageable.

Also in 1995, office operations were moved to their current location on Leitersburg Pike in Hagerstown.

New and meticulously maintained equipment is a cornerstone of Atlantic Coast Charters and in 1998 the company traded in some of the original coaches for new 55 passenger coaches.

A wheel chair equipped coach was added in 2000.

The company has its own maintenance garage, dump and fueling facilities and outside storage area for all of the coaches.

Atlantic Coast Charters offers charters, complete tour planning for chartering groups and retail trips for the individual traveler. The retail excursions are personally driven by Mr. Lynn with Mrs. Lynn serving as escort.

Atlantic Coast Charters is also an approved military carrier and is called upon regularly as a sub-contractor for Maryland Transit Administration commuter runs.
